StopCOVID NI – Automated Processing

To protect your privacy, and tell you as soon as possible if you’ve been near someone with COVID-19, we use automated processing. This means that computers, not people, make some decisions, including whether or not you get a close contact alert, which is called an ‘exposure notice’.

This automated process uses ‘Random IDs’ (codes created by your phone, but can’t be used to work out who you are) and measures Bluetooth signals to check if App users’ phones have been close enough for long enough to put them at risk of infection. The app needs to do this in an automated way, so that nobody else knows if you get an exposure notice. When you accept the terms and conditions you are also agreeing to this process. If you need to talk to someone about this, call 0300 200 7896 Monday – Friday (excluding bank holidays) 9am – 5pm. If you think that the app has made a mistake you can disagree with its decision.
